British Airways launches ‘Student Travel Assistance’ for Indian students travelling to UK

British Airways has introduced ‘Student Travel Assistance’, a complimentary service designed to support Indian students traveling to London Heathrow this summer, in time for the start of the academic year. The initiative, available until October 31, 2025, will be offered to students departing from all five Indian airports served by the airline: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai.

The service includes a dedicated check-in desk, wayfinding guidance through the airport, and transfer assistance upon arrival at Heathrow Terminal 5. British Airways is currently the only airline offering such a complimentary, personalised service for students

Helen O’Connor, British Airways’ Regional General Manager, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific Airport, said, “We are proud to fly thousands of students around the world, ready for them to embark on their next adventure, and for some students, this is the first time they are travelling overseas.

“Our teams across both sides of the globe have worked incredibly hard to introduce our first-ever ‘Student Travel Assistance’ service, offering dedicated support to make every journey for students as seamless and reassuring as possible. We hope this makes them feel at ease from the moment they arrive to when they land in their destination, and we look forward to welcoming them on board.”

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, over 1.33 million Indian students are pursuing higher education abroad as of January 2024. While the UK remains a top destination due to strong academic and cultural ties, international student mobility from India has seen consistent growth over the past decade.

The initiative builds on the airline’s broader efforts to support Indian travellers, with the launch of a ‘Meet and Assist’ service earlier this year, which offers in-person guidance in local Indian languages for customers who may need additional support navigating through the airport.

British Airways currently operates 56 weekly flights from five Indian cities, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai, to London Heathrow.
